Empowering California renters through information, education, and housing resources.
This project was created to make housing information easier to understand so renters in California do not have to navigate the system alone. Many people are unsure where to begin when they receive a notice, face a rent increase, or experience unsafe conditions. Our goal is to provide clear and reliable legal information that helps tenants understand their rights and make informed decisions.
No legal representation or legal advice is provided. All information is educational.
California is home to nearly 17 million renters, one of the largest renter populations in the country. Housing costs remain among the highest nationwide, and many households are under increasing financial strain.
β’ π More than half of renters spend over 30 percent of their income on rent
β’ π Nearly one in three pay more than half of their income on housing
β’ βοΈ Only about 4 percent of tenants receive legal representation in eviction cases
β’ ποΈ Eviction filings in several counties have returned to or exceeded pre-pandemic levels
Many renters do not know how to respond to notices or where to find reliable support. This project helps close that information gap so renters can take informed steps to maintain their housing and protect their families.
